A disappointing result, and a worrying one as well.
I think I might be about to hit a plateau, which would have a huge impact on my ability to reach my goal in time.
A mid-week weigh in on Thursday revealed no loss, so I decided to weigh in every day leading up to today. The loss of 0.6 kg occurred over Thursday, and despite hard work, no other loss occurred.
This is why I no longer trust - nor will I be utilising - the scientific calculations behind weight loss.
Apparently, you can calculate a potential weight loss with this formula...
W x 7700 / D = C
- W is the amount of weight you want to lose.
- 7700 is the amount of calories in 1 kg of weight.
- D is the amount of days in which you want to lose the weight.
- C is the calorie deficit.
So, if I want to lose 1 kg a week...
1 x 7700 / 7 = 1100
I would need to create a deficit of 1100 calories from my TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) which is the amount of calories I need to consume to stay the same weight.
My current TDEE is 2553, so I could create the deficit of 1100 by reducing my intake by 1000, and burning 100 calories through activity.
I could also reduce my intake by 800 and burn 300, and so on.
Using this method and looking back at my weekly statistics, I should have easily lost twice the amount that I did.
I know that it's just an estimate and never a guarantee, but I really should have had a much better result. This is why I am disappointed, and will no longer be going with these calculations going forward. It will just set me up for potential disappointment, and make me even more depressed.
Hopefully I can avoid a plateau and continue to lose weight, but I am very cautious and worried.
Upcoming mini-goals:
August 4th - 111.9 kg (obese to overweight) 1.7 kg to go.
August 11th - 110.8 kg (total of 20 kg lost) 2.8 kg to go.
September 1st - 107.7 kg (3/4 way point) 5.9 kg to go.
And no more mid-week weigh ins!
